So tonight, as part two of our series “Hand it Over: A Life Surrendered to God,” we’re going to be talking about the concept of identity. Without giving too much of the message away, we need to surrender who we say we are over to God (or “Hand it over,” as it were). So many of us find our identity in what we do, how many people love us, what our friends think about us, how we treat others, etc. That is all so external and not who we are at the true core! Because we are God’s child, we need to surrender to who HE says we are, not what we or others say. According to Scripture, there are many things that God says about us, the most significant to me (and I would hope to you as well) being that, a) God accepts me, flaws and all; b) I am secure and my actions cannot increase or decrease the amount of love that God has for me; and c) I am significant to God, because He created me.
This sermon idea didn’t come out of planning meetings with our youth staff or deep theological studies (though it did require some!)… it came from a felt need in our group to place your identity with someone that will keep it safe and love you no matter what! I can remember feeling insignificant, too skinny, nerdy, musical and shy in high school to feel like anything mattered. Once I learned about what God thinks about me, none of that seemed to matter! Pray that our kids will embrace this message tonight… it is so hard to be in high school and figure out who you are in such a public place. Pray that God’s love will be felt by all students tonight!

Hey fellow youth pastors!
Tonight for me is the last night of “Do Something!”, which also leads into a nice 2 week break from sermon prep for me! Woo hoo!
I plan to use that time that I normally spend writing sermons playing with my new friend, GarageBand to see what I can do in there with loops and stuff… the band had fun playing last night!
AAAAAAnyway, off topic, have a great night at your ministry (or if you do it another night, good luck that night too!). God has given us all a special calling and it’s quite a privilege to be head of the ship that steers students in the right direction. See you later!

So this past Saturday evening, I spent the night huddled close to my tv with some of my favorite people: my band! We played COD, Wii and watched part of a movie, ate almost 3 xl pizzas and drank about a dozen coke. This made for an awesome worship experience on Sunday morning!
I don’t even know if I can explain what happened Sunday morning, but God was showing up in a big way! Perhaps pizza, coke and video games are hidden in some sort of code in the Bible… just kidding, I’m sure it didn’t have much to do with that, but moreso the Holy Spirit working though the service to bring people closer to Jesus. What an awesome way to start the week!

Andy Stanley: It is always a mistake to decide what you want to accomplish before you first decide who you want to be.
Yikes. That was his first message of 2010. Check out Northpoint Community Church on iTunes to hear his message…. wow.

Hey gang!
I can see from facebook and twitter updates that most of you youth pastors are planning games night/fun nights because today is the last day of school before Christmas holidays! We were going to go on a sleigh ride, but we have almost no snow. booo. So instead, we are going to a concert at Cornerstone Alliance Church. One of our regular worship bands, Hybrid Union, is playing at this show! I hope they play some Black Eyed Peas tonight!
So I guess my question for you today is: What kind of break are you taking from ministry over the holidays? Nexus is done on Friday nights until January 15. I think it’s a nice break for the volunteers (it helps that Christmas and New Years’ Day both land on Friday nights this year!). Instead of Friday stuff, we are holding 3 weeks of drop-in. Because drop-in was so successful over the summer, we thought we’d bring it back so our kids can hang out and still get to see their friends over the break. Personally, I have about 4 days of work left before 6 days out of town to see family. We have one Sunday, a pizza party for the volunteers that served cheesecake at the play! I am going to help with the music at my parents church over Christmas weekend, and eat a LOT of food… I’m going to have to go to hot yoga every day for like a month to work off all that eating!
Anyway, I thought I’d take a chance to wish you a very Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year and such. Don’t eat toooooo much!
Love you all!

Hey gang. I seem to have a flu of sorts today. Not entirely surprising though, I always tend to get sick in stressful seasons. Stay healthy gang!

Holy Pajamas, Batman!!!!!!!!
Today is Winnipeg’s first snowfall of the season!
In a way, I both love and hate it at the same time!
Good luck to you youth pastors and workers out there who have youth tonight… I’m thinking if this stuff stays I may have some snowballs ready for kids who don’t listen to my message….
